Community Youth

Chess To Life

At Risk Youth Initiative

Chess players are taught to think critically, plan their moves, and execute their strategy. These are directly transferable life enhancement skills. Students who play chess often find greater educational opportunities. Chess has proven to improve academic performance, and in turn  “break the cycle” for at-risk  youth. Chess players follow many career paths, but STEM fields are particularly popular. Math, engineering, finance, and computer science are well-represented within the chess community.

Chess also offers important mentoring opportunities for youth that are in need of direction and guidance at a critical time in their lives – when peer pressure is intense and positive influence is greatly needed. It offers a sense of belonging and inclusion to a community focused on resilience and personal growth.

The Rooks Mentorship program teaches life lessons through the eyes of Chess.
